TIJF is organized by the not-for-profit arts organization,Jewellery Arts Collective Canada Inc. (JACI). The Collective is made up of four members: Paul McClure and Melanie Egan(Co-founders), Delane Cooper (Managing Director) and Suzanne Carlsen (Exhibitions’ Coordinator). These individuals have strong reputations within the national and international design and craft communities with collective experience in organizational governance and leadership; as arts practitioners, curators, arts administrators and educators. The impetus for TIJF arose when two Toronto institutions; George Brown College and Harbourfront Centre were approached by the Society of North American Goldsmiths [SNAG] to host its annual conference in Toronto in 2013.The name and theme for the SNAG 2013 conference is Meta-Mosaic, inspired by the potential for sustainability through diversity and inclusivity in contemporary jewellery. TIJF was then conceived to promote contemporary jewellery to the 1200 conference attendees and the local general public. In 2011, the collective was formed to spearhead TIJF and begin preparing for what has already grown to over 40 exhibitions and events planned throughout Toronto during the month of May 2013.
